An elderly man was fatally struck by a Hellenic Train service on Friday morning in the Metaxourgeio area of Athens.

The incident occurred shortly before 8 a.m. at the junction of Konstantinoupoleos Street and Athinon Avenue, when the man attempted to cross the railway line on foot.
Emergency services responded with six firefighters and two vehicles to recover the body, while an ambulance from the National First Aid Center (EKAB) transported the remains.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the accident. Local media reports suggest the man may have been homeless, though this has not been officially confirmed.
