Changes in mayoral elections
In local elections, the law will be changed in headman elections.
The Ministry of Interior is planning to change the law in the local elections of 2023.
According to the proposed new law, in settlements with a population of 201 to 2000, the first candidate from the list with the most votes on the first Sunday of the election will be elected as headman.
In settlements with a population of 2001 and more, 5/3 of the assembly, including the headman, is elected from the list of the Mayor, regardless of the votes received in the relevant settled area.
Finally, in settlements with a population of less than 200, the first candidate from the list with the most votes on the first Sunday of the election is elected headman.
The relevant amendment is expected to be passed in the parliament soon.
