Athens charity being investigated for misappropriation of donations
A criminal investigation into the management of funds given to free-meals organization 'Allos Anthropos' was ordered by the Athens first-instance court prosecutor on Friday.
Specifically the prosecutor ordered that the accounts provided by the founder of the organization for donations should be investigated in relation to criminal organizations and money laundering.
The investigation, which began after media reports alleged irregularities at the organization, will use the report drawn up by the Money Laundering Authority under the supervision of honorary deputy Supreme Court prosecutor Charalambos Vourliotis.
Being investigated under the prosecutor's order will be both the man who established the social kitchen and relatives of his, in whose accounts specific amounts were allegedly deposited. According to the data colleted by the Authority, there appears to be a significant withdrawal of funds from accounts in the last two years: there are deposits of 1 million euros and withdrawals of 600,000 euros that were directed to online gaming companies.
