46 forest fires in the last 24 hours across Greece
In the last 24 hours, 46 agricultural forest fires have been throughout Greece. Of these, according to Fire Department, 36 were dealt with immediately while the fire forces are dealing with another ten. According to Civil Protection, eight of them needed the assistance of aircraft.
Strong ground forces and 7 aircraft are fighting the fire that erupted in the forest area of Kondospoti Evia, which no longer has an active front.
According to Fire Department, there are no active fronts in the fires in Vonitsa and Syros while fire in Aspropyrgos and West Achaia has been curtailed.
Very high risk of fire for six regional units on Wednesday
There is a very high (category 4) fire risk on Wednesday in the regional units of Attica, Peloponnese, Sterea Ellada, Western Greece, Northern Aegean, Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, according to the Fire Danger Forecast Map issued by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection at the climate crisis and civil protection ministry..
The general secretariat has advised state and local services in these areas to be on alert so as to immediately deal with any fires that may occur, including aerial and ground patrols.
There will also be a precautionary ban on the circulation of vehicles and people within national parks, forests and high-risk areas.
The ministry has advised the public to be exceptionally careful and avoid any activity in the open that could accidentally cause a fire, such as burning vegetation, using machinery that creates sparks, lighting barbecues, or throwing away lit cigarettes. It also reminded the public to alert the fire brigade via the emergency number 199 in the case of fire.
