Roussopoulos re-elected PACE president
Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Monday in Strasbourg. All five political groups and 612 representatives from 46 member states supported his second term.
In his acceptance speech, Roussopoulos said his re-election reflects trust in his leadership since January 2024. During his first term, he prioritized strengthening the Assembly’s global presence, boosting international collaboration, and addressing challenges to democracy and human rights. Media coverage of the Assembly’s work increased by 60% from 2023 to 2024 under his tenure.
Looking ahead, Roussopoulos pledged continued support for Ukraine amid Russia’s aggression, stronger efforts to combat discrimination and inequality, and expanded initiatives on artificial intelligence’s role in governance.
