19 candidates of Turkish origin elected to parliament in Germany
In the general elections held in Germany yesterday, 19 candidates of Turkish origin were entitled to enter the Bundestag as deputies.
Social Democratic Party (SPD) 7, Left Party (Die Linke) 7, Christian Democratic Party (CDU) 2, Greens (Grüne) 2, Christian Social Union Party (CSU) 1 were the parties with deputies of Turkish origin.
Hakan Demir, Metin Hakverdi, Macit Karaahmetoğlu, Mahmut Özdemir, Aydan Özoğuz, Derya Türk Nachbaur and Serdar Yüksel were elected to parliament from the SPD.
Gökay Akbulut, Ateş Gürpınar, Ferat Koçak, Cansın Köktürk, Cansu Özdemir, Cem Hamit İnce and Mirze Edis from the Left Party, Serap Güler and Tijen Ataoğlu from the CDU and Ayşe Asar and Filiz Polat from the Greens were elected MPs.
Hülya Düber from CSU became the first MP of Turkish origin.
18 people of Turkish origin entered the parliament in Germany last term.
