Summer sales begin on Monday as retailers expect boost from tourism
Greece's summer sales season begins on Monday, July 13, and will run until Aug. 31, marking the retail sector's most important trading period of the summer.
Retailers are cautiously optimistic that increased tourist activity and strong seasonal demand will support consumer spending despite continued pressure on household budgets. Industry estimates suggest total turnover during the 50-day sales period could reach between €7 billion and €7.4 billion, representing a nominal increase of 2% to 5% compared with last year.
Consumer organizations are urging shoppers to compare original and discounted prices carefully, verify product quality and avoid impulse purchases driven by promotional campaigns.
They also recommend keeping receipts and checking return and exchange policies before making purchases.
Consumer protection authorities reminded retailers that advertised discounts must be transparent and based on genuine pre-sale prices, noting that misleading pricing practices remain among the most common complaints during major sales periods.
With inflation continuing to affect household spending, this year's summer sales are expected to draw strong consumer interest as shoppers seek lower prices on seasonal purchases.
