MP Zeybek: Xanthi people concerned about the conversion of the hospital into a health centre
Xanthi SYRIZA MP Hüseyin Zeybek asked the Ministry of Health about the possibility of converting Xanthi State Hospital into a health centre.
Presenting a question to the parliament to be answered by the Minister of Health Mihalis Chrysohoidis, MP Zeybek emphasised that the situation in Xanthi Hospital is getting worse day by day. Huseyin Zeybek reminded that he had asked questions 12 times about the Xanthi Hospital during the New Democracy Party's rule and noted that the situation regarding the health services provided in the hospital has become more and more dire.
Zeybek stated that in the document sent by the director of the internal medicine clinic to the hospital administration, it was emphasised that the lack of personnel should be urgently eliminated for the safe and proper functioning of the department and added: "The lack of health personnel in the hospital, the inactivity of the intensive care unit for more than two years and the closed coronary care unit have been added to the problem. At the same time, the clinic in question has been trying to be supported by temporary doctor transfers from regional hospitals, the work and contributions of military and self-employed doctors for a year, but this does not solve the problem. The number of 9 specialised doctors serving in the clinic in question has decreased to 2 and these 2 doctors are expected to serve in the clinic with 30 - 40 patients."
On 16 August 2023, the computer system in the hospital was disabled for 24 hours and as a result, administrative services and laboratory tests could not be carried out, Zeybek said, stressing that the people of Xanthi are worried that the hospital will be turned into a health centre.
In the parliamentary question submitted to the parliament, MP Hüseyin Zeybek asked the Ministry of Health to answer the following questions:
1-) Is it true that the specialist pathologist was not on duty on 9 August 2023?
2-) Is it true that the activities of military doctors in the hospital are limited to 1 day a week?
3-) Is it true that the necessary conditions for the safe operation of the pathology clinic are not provided and what is the government planning to do to solve the problem?
4-) Are the rumours that temporary doctor transfers from other hospitals create similar problems in their own hospitals true?
5-) Is the scenario that only pathology outpatient clinics will operate in Xanthi Hospital on a daily basis and that patients will be transferred to neighbouring hospitals (Komotini, Kavala, Alexandroupolis) in the event that they are diagnosed to be treated in the hospital valid?
6-) Is there an idea to transform the Xanthi Hospital into a health centre?
7-) What are the Government's proposals to solve the problem of understaffing in Xanthi Hospital and is it considering to include it in the category of special regions in order to provide more incentives to the health workers who prefer this hospital?
