Komotini Municipality issues fire risk warning
The Komotini Municipality has issued a fire risk warning to residents following the release of the Fire Risk Forecast Map by the General Secretariat for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection. The map indicates that the Rodopi region is categorized as level 3 for today, August 22, 2024.
In response to the elevated fire risk, the municipality has urged citizens to exercise extreme caution. The announcement highlighted that current local conditions—such as topography, local winds, and temperatures—significantly increase the likelihood of fires that would be challenging to control.
Residents are advised to immediately call 199 or 112 if they detect a fire, providing precise details about the location. The municipality also warned against activities that could inadvertently start fires, such as burning dry grass, branches, or waste outdoors, and using spark-producing tools like saws and welders.
Additionally, the use of open fires for grilling, smoke from beekeeping, and tossing lit cigarettes should be avoided to prevent accidental fires.
