Greece's role in the Balkans

Greece's role in helping to improve transport and connectivity networks in the broader region of the Balkans, the Black Sea and the South-Eastern Mediterranean became pivotal in recent years, noted Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister for Economic Diplomacy & Openess Kostas Fragogiannis on Wednesday.
The minister was speaking at the 4th Balkans & Black Sea Forum's 'Executive Roundtable 2023' in Athens that focused on Greece's role in energy, economic and environmental innovation, interconnectivity infrastructures, and intercultural cooperation.
Improving connectivity in transport networks is a priority for Greece, Fragogiannis emphasized, "as it brings economic and geopolitical benefits for all countries in the region."
He also made a special reference to Greece's leading role in the implementation of the Transport Community Green Corridors & Lanes initiative, which aims to facilitate transport and connectivity between the Western Balkans and the EU. Another priority for the Greek government is expanding and improving the country's ports, which are of strategic significance, he underlined.
