Turkish Airlines to allow crew pray
Turkish Airlines (THY) pilots were allowed to worship in the cockpit.
The decision regarding THY pilots entered into force with the approval of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
According to the flight operation directive, pilots will be able to worship outside the critical stages of the flight.
Radical decision regarding THY pilots
Article C of the aforementioned directive of Turkish Airlines states that "Turkish Airlines attaches importance to the mental and physical health of the flight crew during the flight."
For this reason, flight crew members are allowed to take short breaks for stretching and light exercises at non-critical stages of the flight.
It was also announced that pilots are allowed to pray and fulfil their beliefs in the cockpit.
Conditional permission for prayer in the cockpit
However, a critical condition has been imposed on the fulfilment of prayers, taking flight safety into consideration.
Accordingly, THY pilots will be able to fulfil their beliefs in the cockpit, provided that they are not in critical phases of the flight.
