Slovenian President: I call on the UNSC to stop the killings in Gaza

In the video message shared by the Slovenian Presidency, Pirc Musar made statements about the events in Gaza under Israeli aggression.

In his message, Pirc Musar said that he was horrified to see how the international community had failed in the test of humanitarian aid and humanity.

Stating that Slovenia will not allow this as a democratic country determined to protect fundamental human rights and freedoms, Pirc Musar said: "I recently announced that I support Ukraine in this matter. Today I call on the UNSC to stop the killings in Gaza."

Pirc Musar pointed out that the UNSC has been a victim of the interests of the countries with veto power since its establishment and said, "Millions of people have died worldwide because of these interests. UNSC membership is not for the narrow interests of countries, but for them to sit there and act on behalf of humanity."

"The UNSC needs to act immediately with a resolution that clearly informs Israel"

Pirc Musar pointed out that due to this irresponsibility, images are coming from Gaza that cause us to close our eyes with both horror and shame:

"Dead, wounded, sick and even starving children are not a matter of politics and state interests, alliances and international support or self-defence. They are a crime and a denial of humanity. As a member of the UNSC, Slovenia must continue to endeavour, to the best of its ability and with all its knowledge and experience, to achieve a ceasefire and urgent humanitarian assistance to civilians in Gaza. A ceasefire before the start of Ramadan is demanded by the entire domestic and international public opinion. As President of Slovenia, I am always ready to actively participate in these efforts."

Pirc Musar underlined that the right to veto is not legitimate in times of mass crimes against the civilian population and said, "The UNSC needs to act immediately with a resolution that will clearly inform Israel. What is happening in Gaza and also in the West Bank is contrary to the UN Charter."

Pirc Musar stated that threatened nations have the right to self-defence, but they will not forget what Hamas has done and Israel's policy of collective punishment of Palestinians, and added: "Only one nation is in danger in this war: Palestine. It urgently needs peace and humanitarian aid."
