Journey from Thessaloniki to Samsun: 'Ancestral soil' approached the last stop

The soil and the Turkish flag, which was taken from the house of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in Thessaloniki, approached the last stop.

The soil
and the Turkish flag, which was taken from Thessaloniki, approached the last stop. The cognate cyclists, who were welcomed in the city of Sinop with the last 150 kilometers to Samsun Atakum, will deliver their relics on the morning of 17 May.

Within the framework of the 19 May Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day events, 4 members of the Robis Cycling and Outdoor Sports Association passed through the İpsala Border Gate with the Turkish flag and soil taken from Atatürk's house in Thessaloniki. Then continue their journey through Tekirdağ, İstanbul, Kocaeli and Sakarya. After Düzce, Bolu and Kastamonu, they reached the city of Sinop.

On their long journey of 1,350 kilometers, the athletes and their relics were welcomed by Deputy Mayor Aydın Hakan Sönmez and Sinop Exchange and Balkan Turks Association President Kenan Aral in Sinop, 150 kilometers before the last stop.

ROBIS Sports Club President Latif Mehmet said, "We have finished most of the road, we have two more days. We continue on the road and still think about the day ahead. We came early today, we were wondering about Sinop, I hope we will see the city of Sinop as well," he said.

Şükrü Mehmetçik, a member of ROBİS Sports Club, said, "As the days get shorter, our excitement is at its peak. Our excitement is really great. I can say that we have somewhat reduced our fatigue. We liked it a lot, the nature and the sea are perfect," he said.

ROBİS Sports Club member Ali Kayrak stated that he always wanted to visit the Black Sea region and that he achieved this thanks to this event.

Deputy Mayor Aydın: “We are very happy”

Sinop Deputy Mayor Aydın Hakan Sönmez said, "As the Municipality of Sinop and the people of Sinop, we are very happy to welcome our compatriots from Greece. Our Mayor Barış Ayhan could not be here. He is in Ankara right now due to his job, he also sends many greetings to our friends.

They'll go to the hotel soon, and then we'll be relaxing all night. We will say goodbye to our friends after breakfast tomorrow morning," he said.
