Eurozone unemployment rate declined in August

The European Statistical Office (Eurostat) published August unemployment data for the European Union (EU) and the Eurozone.
According to the data, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in the EU, which was 6 percent in July, was 5.9 percent in August.
The unemployment rate in the Eurozone, which was 6.5 percent in July, fell to 6.4 percent in August.
In August last year, the unemployment rate was 6.7 per cent in the Eurozone and 6.1 per cent in the EU.
In EU harmonised data, the unemployment rate was 11.5 percent in Spain, 10.9 percent in Greece, 7.6 percent in Sweden and Estonia, 7.3 percent in Italy and France in August.
The number of unemployed in the EU was 12 million 837 thousand in August, of which 10 million 856 thousand were in the Eurozone.
In August, the number of unemployed young people under the age of 25 was 2 million 687 thousand in the EU and 2 million 194 thousand in the Eurozone.
The youth unemployment rate was 14 per cent in the EU and 13.8 per cent in the euro area.
