Zeybek condemns the Greek MP who insulted Dr. Sadık Ahmet
New Left MP Hüseyin Zeybek condemned the far-right Spartans Party MP Vasilis Stigas for insulting Dr Sadık Ahmet, the founder of the Friendship, Equality and Peace (FEP) Party, which represents the Turks.
Zeybek reminded Stigas' insults against Ahmet in his speech at the Greek Parliament and said, "As the New Left Party, we will stand against such disgusting discourses, extreme right-wing and divisive approaches."
Stating that these discourses reminded the closed down far-right Golden Dawn Party, Zeybek warned that the Spartans Party is an extension of the Golden Dawn Party and that they walk in the same political line.
Zeybek said, "During the budget negotiations in the plenary session of the parliament, the far-rightist statements made by the Spartans parliamentary group chairman from the rostrum and his insulting statements about the late Dr. Sadık Ahmet are disrespectful to the office we hold and are far from the principles of democracy that we all serve. It should be emphasised once again that it is necessary to condemn and not tolerate such discourses and opinions, especially in the parliamentary environment."
In his speech at the Greek Parliament on 17 December, where the 2024 budget was discussed, Stigas criticised the meeting of the cognate MPs Hüseyin Zeybek and Özgür Ferhat with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who visited Athens on 7 December, and said: "Are they Turks? Have we forgotten what happened with Sadık Ahmet? The deputy of the Greek state (Sadık Ahmet) used to come out and say he was a Turk. Until a lorry hit him. He was relieved and so were we."
Stigas' remarks were also criticised by some news websites.
