Youth from İskeçe explore İzmir
The Youth Branch and Folk Dance Team of the İskeçe Turkish Union visited İzmir as part of a three-day excursion program on Friday, August 15. The trip allowed the young participants to explore historical and cultural sites while representing the Turkish community of Western Thrace and strengthening bonds of friendship.
The İskeçe delegation was welcomed in İzmir by Mümin Durmuş, President of the İzmir Branch of the Western Thrace Turks Solidarity Association, who accompanied and supported the group throughout the visit.
Day 1 – İzmir City Tour
The first day began with a guided city tour:
Kadifekale, where participants learned about the city’s history and enjoyed panoramic views.
The historic Elevator (Tarihi Asansör), one of İzmir’s iconic landmarks.
After free time at Kemeraltı Bazaar, the group visited the Atatürk Museum.
Day 2 – History and Heritage: Ephesus, Kuşadası, and Şirince
On the second day, the youth toured the ancient city of Ephesus, one of the most important archaeological sites in the world, and explored nearby museums showcasing historical artifacts.
The itinerary also included Kuşadası and the historic village of Şirince.
In the evening, Buca Mayor hosted a dinner at the municipality’s social facilities, where a plaque of appreciation was presented to the Mayor’s Chief of Staff and Mümin Durmuş for their support.
Day 3 – Farewell
The final day featured a visit to Belkahve, where participants learned about the area’s historical and cultural significance. A short shopping break concluded the program before the team returned to Greece.
