Hundreds of Western Thrace Turks came together for an iftar meal organized by the Komotini S. Mufti's Office and the Komotini Turkish Youth Union (GTGB) on Thursday evening, March 27, 2025.

The traditional iftar event was held at the GTGB premises, with additional tables set up in the garden and surrounding streets to accommodate the large number of attendees. Around 200 young volunteers actively participated in serving guests, ensuring a smooth and successful event.

As soon as attendees took their seats, the evening call to prayer marked the breaking of the fast, followed by a prayer led by Komotini Mufti İbrahim Şerif.

Leaders Emphasize Unity and Brotherhood
Following the meal, a series of speeches were delivered by prominent figures.

GTGB President Sedat Hasan was the first to speak, highlighting the significance of the iftar in fostering unity and togetherness. He also expressed gratitude to the young volunteers who contributed to the organization and success of the event.

Next, Western Thrace Turkish Minority Advisory Board President and Xanthi Mufti Mustafa Trampa addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of iftar gatherings for the Turkish community in Western Thrace. He praised the young volunteers, calling them the future leaders of the community.

Finally, Turkey’s Consul General in Komotini, Aykut Ünal, took the stage, acknowledging the efforts of all involved in organizing the event. In his speech, he expressed his appreciation for the young participants and extended an invitation for the upcoming Eid celebration at the Turkish Consulate in Komotini.

"As we near the end of Ramadan, we have attended numerous iftars across Evros, Rhodope, and Xanthi. The sense of unity, friendship, and dedication displayed by the youth is truly inspiring. These young individuals will become future professionals and leaders, making their contributions to society invaluable," said Ünal.

He also announced that Turkey’s Ambassador to Athens, Çağatay Erciyes, would be attending the Eid celebrations in Komotini, inviting the community to join the festivities at the Turkish Consulate.

The iftar program concluded successfully with closing remarks and expressions of gratitude.
