Western Thrace Turks expect goodwill from the Athens government

Halit Habipoğlu, President of the Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe (ABTTF), drew attention to the recent rapprochement between Turkey and Greece and asked the Athens government to approach the problems of Turks living in Western Thrace in good faith.

Habipoğlu issued a statement referring to the interview given by Greek Prime Minister Kiryakos Mitsotakis to the Greek Radio and Television Organisation ERT.

"Following the official visit of our motherland's President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to Athens last December, it is pleasing that the rapprochement in bilateral relations between our motherland and our country has continued to increase recently." Habipoğlu emphasised that Greece should show goodwill towards Western Thrace Turks and find solutions to problems related to freedom of education, organisation and religion.

Habipoğlu said, "We are citizens of this country and we have no problems that cannot be solved as long as there is goodwill and dialogue."

In an interview with ERT, Mr Mitsotakis stated that the problems in the Aegean would be approached in good faith.
