Western Thrace Turks celebrate Eid together at Turkish Consulate General in Gümülcine
Members of the Turkish community from across Western Thrace gathered at the Turkish Consulate General in Gümülcine on Thursday to celebrate Eid al-Adha during a traditional holiday reception hosted by the diplomatic mission.
Held on the second day of Eid al-Adha, the event brought together hundreds of attendees from various parts of Western Thrace, including community leaders, elected officials, representatives of minority institutions, and local residents. The gathering highlighted the spirit of unity, solidarity, and cultural continuity within the Turkish community of the region.
Guests were welcomed by Türkiye’s Consul General in Gümülcine, Aykut Ünal, and his wife, İlayda Ünal. Participants exchanged Eid greetings and engaged in conversations in a warm and festive atmosphere.
Among the prominent attendees was Hakan Çavuşoğlu, former Deputy Prime Minister of Türkiye’s 65th Government, former Chairman of the Turkish Grand National Assembly’s Human Rights Investigation Commission, and former AK Party Member of Parliament for Bursa. Çavuşoğlu met with community members and conveyed his Eid wishes during the reception.
The event was also attended by Mustafa Trampa, Chairman of the Western Thrace Turkish Minority Advisory Board and Mufti of İskeçe; Mufti of Komotini İbrahim Şerif; Members of the Hellenic Parliament Hüseyin Zeybek and Özgür Ferhat; members of the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Regional Council; Honorary President of the Friendship, Equality and Peace Party (FEP) Işık Sadık Ahmet; FEP Party President Çiğdem Asafoğlu; mayors; President of the Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe (ABTTF) Halit Habipoğlu; and representatives of numerous minority associations and institutions.
The Eid reception at the Turkish Consulate General served as a platform for community members to strengthen social ties and celebrate one of the most important religious holidays together. Participants emphasized the importance of preserving unity and solidarity among the Turkish minority in Western Thrace.
The gathering concluded with attendees expressing their hopes for peace, prosperity, and continued cooperation within the community.
