Western Thrace Muslims gather for Eid al-Adha prayer in a spirit of unity and faith
In Delinasufköy, a village within the Municipality of Kozlukebir in the Regional Unit of Rhodope, worshippers filled the local mosque before sunrise to participate in the traditional Eid prayer. Following the service, community members listened to a religious sermon and exchanged Eid greetings.
Addressing the congregation after the prayer, Imam Şükrü Ahmet emphasized the spiritual significance of Eid al-Adha, highlighting the values of brotherhood, social cohesion, and family ties.
“During these blessed days, we must strengthen our bonds as brothers and sisters and inspire trust among one another. Eid is a time to draw closer to God and to each other. It is especially a period when our unity and solidarity are reinforced. We should not allow those who seek to create division among us to succeed. Let us bring the joy of Eid to the elderly, orphans, and those in need. Let us remain united and strong together,” Imam Ahmet said.
Following the prayer, many residents visited local cemeteries to offer prayers at the graves of deceased relatives and loved ones, a longstanding tradition observed during major Islamic holidays.
The spiritual atmosphere of Eid al-Adha was felt throughout Western Thrace, where communities celebrated the occasion with a renewed commitment to faith, compassion, and social solidarity.
