Western Thrace Community gathers for Ramadan iftar in Kirkoy Village
The event took place on Sunday, March 8, bringing together villagers and guests in a warm atmosphere of solidarity and shared tradition.
Community and Officials Join the Gathering
Residents of Kirkoy and visitors broke their fast together at the communal iftar table set up in the village. After the evening call to prayer, participants also performed the evening prayer at the village mosque.
The event was attended by several prominent figures, including:
- Aykut Ünal, Consul General of Türkiye in Gümülcine, and his wife İlayda Ünal
- Mehmet Yasin Özlü, Mayor of Başiskele in Türkiye
- Mustafa Trampa, Chairman of the Western Thrace Turkish Minority Advisory Board and Mufti of İskeçe
- İbrahim Şerif, Mufti of Gümülcine
- Hüseyin Zeybek, MP for İskeçe representing New Left Party
- Burhan Baran, Independent MP for İskeçe
- Çiğdem Asafoğlu, President of the Friendship Equality Peace Party
- Kerem Abdrahimoğlu, President of the İskeçe Turkish Union
- Sedat Hasan, President of the Gümülcine Turkish Youth Union
- Local municipal officials, association leaders, and community representatives were also present at the event.

Organizers noted that the iftar gathering reflected the spirit of sharing and solidarity that defines Ramadan, helping strengthen ties between villagers and guests.
Participants spent the evening socializing, exchanging greetings, and taking commemorative photographs, highlighting the sense of community that characterizes such gatherings in Western Thrace.
The program concluded in a friendly atmosphere, reinforcing the cultural and social bonds among members of the Western Thrace Turkish minority.
