"We must own our minority schools"
Due to the start of the new academic year, the teachers' associations established by the Turks of Western Thrace published a statement. The associations emphasized that minority schools should be owned, in their explanations.
In the statement published by the Western Thrace Turkish Teachers' Union, which is not accepted by the Greek state because of the 'Turkish' word in its name, the following statements were noted:
"Over the last 10 years, we have more than 60 minority schools closed and we have to act consciously to stop the closure of minority schools, and parents who do not send their children to minority schools with an excuse of the lack of quality in education, should not forget that all the educated people they see in their periphery are graduated from minority schools”.
In the statement made by the Graduates of Thessaloniki Special Pedagogy Academy Teachers Association, it was stated that "we should own minority schools and teachers who are exposed to various types of discrediting operations”.
The association BIHLIMDER in their statement declared that "In order to be able to maintain minority education autonomy in the future, the minority should choose firstly their educational institutions without giving up their rights”.
