The "Mother's Day" event, which is traditionally organised every year by the Women's Section of the Turkish Union of Xanthi, took place on Sunday, 14 May at the clubhouse of the Turkish Union of Xanthi with a great participation.
The opening speech of the event was made by Zeynur Bargan, President of the Women's Section of ITB. Bargan congratulated all mothers on Mother's Day and thanked those who attended the event.
In his speech, ITB President Ozan Ahmetoğlu congratulated the ITB Women's Section for the organisation and wished all mothers a happy Mother's Day. ITB President Ozan Ahmetoğlu touched upon the role of women in society and family and said that mothers are decisive in the education of minority children. Ahmetoğlu said that due to the increasing migration in Western Thrace due to economic problems, the heads of families have to work abroad and therefore the responsibility of the child and the family falls on the mothers to a great extent.
After the speeches, children from Xanthi and neighbouring villages who participated in the event recited poems for "Mother's Day". The poems of the children were applauded by all the participants and the mothers who attended the event had emotional moments.
