Turkish Teachers' Union calls for Turkish minority schools
The board of directors said, "The education of our children, who are our future, is very important for all of us. However, it is as important for our children to grow up in their own cultural circle as their education. The only way to live with our own identity as a minority is only if our children go to minority schools." found and stated:
"This year, enrollment in primary schools is made between 01-20 March 2023. The education of our children, who are our future, is certainly very important for all of us. However, it is as important as our children's education that they grow up in their own cultural circle. The only way to live with our own identity as a minority is if our children go to minority schools. We have to be sensitive about this issue and teach our children the culture they belong to. It is not even possible for us to give up the education of the autonomous minority. The administrators of our country should respect this demand. This demand is very human. Every parent wants to raise their child, who has their own future, in the culture they belong to. For this reason. We must resolutely send our children to minority schools in order to put an end to the closure of our autonomous minority schools on the pretext of lack of children.
Unfortunately, we have lost 206 of our schools since the day we were entrusted to Greece with our education assurance. We are deeply saddened and worried about the future. Our schools have deliberately created the perception of low quality of education for years, and parents have been encouraged to go to public schools. Parents who do not send their children to minority schools using the quality of education in schools as an excuse should not forget that all educated people they see around them graduated from minority schools. In the years when we went to minority schools, technology was not that advanced and various educational opportunities were not that common. Despite this, minority schools have given us an incredible awareness and developed a sense of belonging to the minority.
Although it is always possible to compensate for our child's lack of education, the way to regain his lost self is very difficult. We would like to underline once again that, like every society, our primary goal is to raise generations that are loyal to our culture, national and moral values, and that this will only be possible with minority schools. We have to think carefully about this and make the right decisions. Because we have to calculate that this decision will affect our child's whole life. We can overcome all the negativities that have occurred in terms of the future of our schools and our minority by insisting on minority schools. As a minority, we must urgently focus on this and produce solutions. Our parents should definitely prefer our minority schools for the survival of our minority. After we lose our schools, there will be no more education issues to talk about. In order to talk briefly about education, we must have schools in which education is given.
In addition, despite all the negativities, it is possible to develop the mother tongue only in minority schools. The importance of mother tongue in education has been scientifically proven. For this reason, all minorities in the world struggle to receive education in their mother tongue. The minority education language is Turkish. Turkish should be developed in parallel with the official language Greek. If we want to raise individuals with high self-confidence, we should send our children to schools where their mother tongue exists and where their mother tongue is respected. For this reason, we must insist on minority schools. We wish endless success to all our puppies who will be enrolled in primary school throughout their education and training."
