Turkish Minister of Family and Social Services visits Western Thrace for Dr. Sadık Ahmet commemoration
Turkish Minister of Family and Social Services, Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş, traveled to Western Thrace to attend the commemoration ceremony for the late Dr. Sadık Ahmet, a symbolic figure in the struggle for the rights of the Turkish Minority in Greece.
As part of her visit, Minister Göktaş held a meeting with the members of the Western Thrace Turkish Minority Advisory Board, emphasizing Türkiye’s continued support for the community’s pursuit of rights and recognition.
Before the meeting, which took place at the headquarters of the Western Thrace Turkish Teachers’ Union (BTTÖB), Minister Göktaş was received at the entrance by:
- Aydın Ahmet, President of BTTÖB
- Mustafa Trampa, Mufti of İskeçe and President of the Advisory Board
- Alongside several board members and representatives.
Following the welcome, Minister Göktaş and her delegation held a consultation meeting with community representatives to discuss local concerns and future cooperation.
During her Gümülcine (Komotini) visit, Minister Göktaş was accompanied by:
- Çağatay Erciyes, Turkish Ambassador to Athens
- Aykut Ünal, Consul General in Komotini
- Deputy consuls and other Turkish officials.
The visit highlights Ankara’s sustained engagement with the Western Thrace Turkish Minority, reaffirming both symbolic and diplomatic support on the 30th anniversary of Dr. Sadık Ahmet’s passing.
