Turkish Foreign Ministry: “We stand with the Turks of Western Thrace”
The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a message marking January 29, the Day of National Resistance and Social Solidarity of the Turks of Western Thrace, reaffirming Türkiye’s continued support for the Western Thrace Turkish minority.
In a statement shared on the ministry’s official social media account, the Turkish Foreign Ministry emphasized that it remains committed to closely following and defending the rights of the Western Thrace Turks, which are grounded in international law and treaties.
The statement read:
“On the occasion of January 29, the Day of National Resistance and Social Solidarity of the Turks of Western Thrace—marking the anniversary of the march that has become a symbol of the struggle for recognition of the ethnic identity of the Western Thrace Turkish Minority—we once again underline that we will continue to stand by our compatriots at all times and remain vigilant in safeguarding their rights based on international law and agreements.
The message highlighted January 29 as a symbolic milestone in the Western Thrace Turkish community’s ongoing struggle for identity recognition, rights, and collective solidarity.
