Tragic loss shakes Western Thrace: Young member of the Minority laid to rest

The tragic road accident that claimed the life of 19-year-old Hasan Imam has cast a shadow of grief over Western Thrace. The young member of the Turkish Minority, who was residing in the village of Koyunköy, was laid to rest on Sunday amid tears and sorrow.
The fatal accident occurred late on the night of Saturday, June 7, in the Tekke (Evmiro) area of Xanthi. For reasons still under investigation, a car carrying two passengers lost control and veered off the road. One passenger managed to exit the vehicle unaided, while Hasan Imam was trapped inside.
Emergency services responded promptly, dispatching three fire trucks and seven firefighters to the scene. Although Imam was extricated from the wreckage, he was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have launched a thorough investigation into the cause of the accident. The area was secured as forensic teams conducted their technical analysis.
Originally from the village of Ketenlik in the Mustafçova municipality, Hasan Imam had been living in Koyunköy. News of his sudden and untimely death caused deep sorrow among his family, friends, and the local community.
On Sunday, June 8, Hasan Imam was laid to rest in Koyunköy following the noon prayer. His funeral was attended by his grieving family, relatives, fellow villagers, and many members of the minority community from surrounding areas.
Xanthi Mufti Mustafa Trampa shared a heartfelt message on social media, stating:
“We laid our brother Hasan Imam to rest in Koyunköy today, accompanied by a large congregation. May Allah have mercy on him and grant him a place in Paradise. I extend my condolences and patience to his family.”
The loss of such a young life has left a deep wound in the hearts of many across Western Thrace.
