Traffic collision near Flamingo Retail Park raises safety concerns on Karaağaç (Porto Lagos) road

A traffic accident involving two vehicles occurred midday outside Flamingo Retail Park, located on the 4th kilometer of the İskeçe–Karaağaç road, once again highlighting long-standing safety issues in the area.

Accident Details

According to initial reports, the collision took place near the shopping center entrance on the outskirts of İskeçe. While the exact cause of the crash remains unclear, authorities confirmed that no serious injuries were reported.

Traffic police units arrived at the scene and have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.

Not an Isolated Case

The accident is not an isolated case. The same location has seen multiple accidents in the past, largely due to problematic entering conditions at the shopping center.

Drivers approaching from İskeçe are required to:

  • Continue to the Misvakli junction
  • Perform a U-turn
  • Return in the opposite direction to enter the shopping area legally

However, many motorists reportedly ignore this procedure, making illegal left turns directly from the main road—significantly increasing the risk of collisions.

Calls for Infrastructure Improvements

Local observers and residents are renewing calls for the construction of a dedicated junction or controlled intersection at the site to improve road safety and prevent further accidents.
