Traditional Mahya celebration held in Zeynelli
The village of Zeynelli, located in the plain region of İskeçe, once again showcased its spirit of unity and solidarity with its traditional mahya celebration, continuing a cherished local tradition.
Held on Sunday, October 26, the event drew a large crowd of villagers as well as guests from neighboring settlements.
The program began with the recitation of a Mevlid-i Şerif at the village mosque, followed by a prayer delivered by Mufti of İskeçe Mustafa Trampa. After the noon prayer, participants gathered in the village square, where the main mahya event took place.
Among the attendees were Turkish Consul General in Gümülcine Aykut Ünal and his wife İlayda Ünal, Mufti of İskeçe and President of the Western Thrace Turkish Minority Advisory Board Mustafa Trampa and his wife Nadire Ömer Trampa, MP Burhan Baran, FEP Party President Çiğdem Asafoğlu, Deputy Mayor of Ihanlı Cem Salihoğlu, BTAYTD President Hüseyin Baltacı, ITB President Kerem Abdurrahimoğlu, Ova Cultural Solidarity and Brotherhood Association President Ömer Muzafferoğlu, and many other distinguished guests.
The villagers, through collective effort, prepared and served traditional rice with meat and ayran, which received great appreciation from attendees. Throughout the event, messages of friendship, unity, and solidarity were strongly emphasized.
Following the celebration, the Turkish Consulate General in Komotini shared a post on social media:
“We joined our compatriots in İskeçe/Zeynelli for the traditional mahya celebration. We thank them for the invitation and congratulate all those who contributed to the event.”
Through this year’s mahya, the people of Zeynelli once again celebrated their rich cultural heritage and strengthened community bonds.
