Traditional Laylat al-Qadr Iftar draws large crowd in Celebikoy, Rhodope
The event, held on Monday, March 16, was organized with the collective contributions of local residents in the central square of the village, located within the municipality of Kozlukebir. The large turnout highlighted the strong sense of unity and tradition among the Turkish Muslim minority in the region.
Among the distinguished attendees were Aykut Ünal, İbrahim Şerif, Özgür Ferhat, and Metin Hacıosman, along with local officials, institutional representatives, and members of the community.
Following the call to prayer at sunset, participants broke their fast together, while the iftar prayer was led by Mufti İbrahim Şerif. In his address, Şerif emphasized the spiritual significance of Laylat al-Qadr, describing it as “a night better than a thousand months,” and highlighting its importance as the night when the Qur’an began to be revealed.
He also expressed gratitude to the people of Celebikoy and the organizing committee for preserving this longstanding tradition and bringing the community together.
In his remarks, Consul General Aykut Ünal congratulated the organizers and attendees, and invited the community to the upcoming Eid al-Fitr celebration to be hosted at the Turkish Consulate in Komotini.
The program concluded after the evening prayer held at the village mosque, marking the end of a spiritually significant and socially unifying gathering.
