The Union of Greek Regions determined the new board members with elections held on Monday, 12 February. Apostolos Tzizikostas, who won the elections with 78 per cent, is expected to be re-elected president.

Christodoulos Topsidis, President of the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, and Theodoros Markopoulos, Deputy Prefect of Kavala, were among those elected to the executive board of the Union of Greek Regions.  Markopoulos came third in the vote ranking.

The ND-backed list headed by Tzizikostas won the elections with 262 votes (78%). Nine board members were elected from Tzizikostas' list.  The PASOK-backed list won one seat with 37 per cent of the votes, the SYRIZA-backed "independent" list won one seat with 20 per cent of the votes, independent candidate Ioakimidis won one seat with 14 per cent of the votes and KKE-backed Avramopoulos won one seat, making a total of 13 board members.

The distribution of duties among the members elected to the executive board of the Union of Greek States is expected to be made in the coming days and Tzitzikostas is expected to be re-elected president.
