The press office of the PASOK-Charity Movement press office issued the following statement:
"By decision of the President of PASOK-Movement for Change, MP Baran Burhan is suspended from the Parliamentary Group until the full clarification of the pending court case against him, which we have been informed about by the Ethics Committee of the Parliament".
According to the information, the felony for which the now independent MP is accused, involves illegal prescribing in 2013-2014 as a doctor (psychiatrist) to a person who was not entitled to prescriptions, which were the basis for illegal preparations.
In addition, according to the same information, the former PASOK MP allegedly illegally prescribed a prescription to a drug addict, which should have been prescribed only by competent structures.
"The case had been withdrawn due to a coronavirus," said a parliamentary source to explain the delay with which it reached parliament.
The case will be discussed on Wednesday morning in the Ethics Committee, which is expected to recommend to the plenary that the minority MP's immunity be lifted.
