The Turkish Minority gives its answer to New Democracy!

In the general elections held in Greece on 21 May, it was remarkable that the New Democracy Party came first in all provinces except Rhodope.

However, the New Democracy Party, which wanted to be successful in the second round elections held on 25 June, gave special importance to these elections.

The experienced politician Dora Bakoyanni, who is a member of the party, made statements on her way to the Rhodope province saying "I did not come here to make promises, I came here to give a message".

Later, in the village of Hacıören in Arriana Municipality, she made threatening statements such as "we will be in power in any way, but if you do not support us, I will not support you at all".

However, these statements and behaviours drew great reaction from the public. When she was told in a TV programme that such statements were wrong and that an apology was expected, Bakoyanni replied "I am not apologising to anyone, 3 thousand votes will neither put us in power nor make us lose power".

After these statements, Bakoyanni was subjected to serious public criticism. As a result, after the second round of elections held on 25 June, there was a significant decrease in the vote rate of the New Democracy Party in the regions where Turks living in Western Thrace are concentrated.

In Arriana Municipality, where Hacıören village, which Bakoyanni threatened, is located, there was a significant decrease in the rate of votes, while Myki Municipality, which was exposed to Hellenic-Pomak propaganda, was the municipality where the New Democracy Party lost the most votes.
