The first tarawih prayer performed in Western Thrace
The Muslim Turkish Minority in Western Thrace performed the first tarawih prayer. In Alexandroupoli, Komotini, and Xanthi, Muslims filled the mosques for the first tarawih.
In his statement to MİLLET, Mufti of Xanthi Mustafa Trampa stated that the Muslim Turkish community of Western Thrace is experiencing the joy and happiness of reaching Ramadan and that preparations are being made in all mosques in the region for this month to pass in peace.
Stating that various events and mass iftars are planned in Western Thrace, Komotini, Xanthi, and Alexandroupoli, Trampa said that religious officials affiliated to the Presidency of Religious Affairs were also sent to the region due to the month of Ramadan.
RAMADAN EXPERIENCE IS LIVED WITH DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES
During Ramadan, religious programs organized by Turkish minority associations, especially mufti offices, which are respected by the public, and at iftars with wide participation, cognates from three cities where the Muslim Turkish minority live find the opportunity to come together. During Ramadan, Islamic and Turkish traditions in the region also gain vitality.
THERE IS NO CENTRAL MOSQUE IN ATHENS THAT CAN MEET THE NEED
Muslims living in Athens, the capital of Greece, perform the tarawih prayer mostly in private areas, since there is no central mosque in the city. Three years ago, the state allocated an old military warehouse away from the city, where only 250 people could fit, as a masjid under the control of the Christian trustee, in order to quell the EU's reactions. However, this place also causes reactions because it is managed with a control mechanism contrary to Islam and is insufficient to meet the needs.
In Athens, which is the only capital in the European Union that does not have a full-fledged large central mosque open to worship, Muslims also perform their Eid prayers in some gyms allocated by the Greek administration.
