Tevfik Hüseyinoğlu laid to rest in Gümülcine

Tevfik Hüseyinoğlu, former president of the Association of Higher Education Graduates of the Western Thrace Minority, retired teacher, and writer, was laid to rest on Monday.

A funeral ceremony was first held at his home in Gümülcine’s Yeni Mahalle district, where prayers were led by Ahmet Arif Emin from the Gümülcine Mufti’s Office. Batuhan Hasan, Vice President of the Western Thrace Turkish Teachers’ Union, delivered a speech highlighting Hüseyinoğlu’s contributions to education and culture, describing him as “an educator and writer who left a lasting mark.”

Following the ceremony, Hüseyinoğlu’s body was taken to Yeni Mahalle Cemetery, where the funeral prayer was led by Gümülcine Mufti İbrahim Şerif. He was then buried in the presence of a large crowd.

The funeral was attended by Türkiye’s Consul General in Gümülcine, Aykut Ünal, and his wife İlayda Ünal, Mufti of Gümülcine İbrahim Şerif, MP Özgür Ferhat, FEP Party Deputy Chairmen Koray Bağdatlı and Bahri Belço, municipal councilor Cihat Şerif, as well as representatives of various associations and institutions, including teachers, colleagues, former students, and community members.
