Tea night and pastry competition draws large turnout in Mehrikoz

The Seçek Minority Education and Culture Association held its traditional Tea Night and Pastry Competition on Saturday evening, attracting strong participation at the football field in the village of Mehrikoz, within the Kozlukebir Municipality of the Rhodope region.

A total of 58 contestants took part in the competition, where a jury evaluated entries based on taste, presentation and originality before selecting the winners.

In the pastry category, first prize was jointly awarded with 41 points to Meliha Koçancı for her chicken and rice pastry and Semiha Bostancı for her minced meat and carrot pastry.

Hatice İbrahim claimed second place with 40 points for her minced meat, potato and rice pastry, while Zeynep Bostancı finished third with 39 points for her potato pastry.

In the dessert category, Havva Koçancı secured first place with 48 points for her traditional büzme baklava. Züleyha Kuru finished second with 47 points for her lemon cake, followed by Cemile Tarakçı in third place with 46 points for her cream cake.

Following the event, the Seçek Minority Education and Culture Association thanked all participants in a statement, expressing appreciation for the women who continue to preserve the community's traditions, customs and cultural heritage through their culinary skills.
