Şükrü Davut, principal of Yassıköy Minority Primary School, lost his life on Saturday following a tragic accident while cutting a tree in his native village of Mehrikoz.

According to initial reports, the 53-year-old educator was seriously injured around midday when he was struck during the tree-cutting incident. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.

His body was transferred to the morgue of Gümülcine Sismanoglio State Hospital for autopsy procedures.

Funeral Arrangements

Born in 1972, Davut was a respected figure in the Western Thrace minority education community. His funeral prayer will be held after the noon prayer on Sunday, March 1, 2026, followed by burial at the Mehrikoz Cemetery.

Community in Mourning

Davut’s sudden passing has deeply saddened residents of Mehrikoz, as well as colleagues, students, and members of the wider minority community.

He was widely known for his dedication to education and his service to minority schooling in the region.
