Sudden bust on the Porto Lagos bazaar

Police, customs officers and coast guard teams consisting of 30 people from Xanthi and Rhodope province raided the public bazaar, which is set up every Sunday along the harbour and is crowded with visitors from both Xanthi and Rhodope provinces.
On Sunday 19 November, a 30-member inspection team, led by inspectors from the Ministry of Development, visited all the stalls in the bazaar, searching for counterfeit, inferior and contraband goods.
Three people were arrested during the inspections, which were carried out amid the anxious looks of the market traders who could not understand what had happened to them. Three people were fined 6,000 euros each, totalling 18,000 euros.
It was stated that three people were arrested for forging documents and invoices.
The Ministry of Development warned consumers who prefer to shop in markets to be especially careful about counterfeit goods.
