Sapçı’s Turkish Minority gathers for iftar dinner
On the evening of March 23, 2025 (Sunday), members of the Turkish minority community in Sapçı (Şapçı) town, Rhodope, came together for a heartfelt iftar dinner organized by the youth of the town.
A Gathering of Unity and Brotherhood
The iftar program took place in the courtyard of the historic Hamidiye Mosque and saw the participation of locals, religious leaders, and municipal officials, including:
Salih Molla Salih – Religious official from the Mufti’s Office of Komotini (Gümülcine)
Ali Topal Mehmet – Deputy Mayor of Sapçı-Maronya Municipality
Sadettin Mustafa – Deputy Mayor of Kozlukebir Municipality
Ahmet Osman Pehlivan – Advisor to the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Regional Governor
Many attendees from neighboring villages
Additionally, Hasan Gümüş, the president of Edirne Mimar Sinan Foundation, traveled from Türkiye to join the event and expressed his solidarity with the Western Thrace Turkish community.
A Spiritual Atmosphere
As the evening azan (call to prayer) was recited, attendees broke their fast together, followed by a prayer led by Salih Molla Salih. After iftar, the congregation performed the evening prayer (Maghrib) in the Hamidiye Mosque, strengthening their sense of community and faith.
This gathering once again emphasized the cultural and spiritual bonds that unite the Western Thrace Turks, making Ramadan a time of solidarity, reflection, and togetherness.
