KINAL Deputy in Rhodope İlhan Ahmet, spoke to Chronos Radio and newspaper, criticizing the Consulate General of Turkey in Komotini.
İlhan Ahmet answered the questions of Dimos Bakirtzakis on Chronos radio known for its attitude against Turkey, Consulate General, and the Turkish Minority. Ilhan Ahmet, shocking the Minority with his statements, “The mission of the diplomat is to strengthen the relations between the two countries, to develop economic diplomacy and to serve some Turkish citizens," he said.
"The task of the consulates and any diplomats is not to deal with the internal affairs of the Minority. Due to the Treaty of Lausanne, the interest of every Turkish consul in Gumulcine can be accepted to some point. Nothing that comes out of the law is not in accordance with the law," he continued.
İlhan Ahmet's statements that were not welcome in Western Thrace caused reactions within the Minority due to discourses targeting the Turkish Minority and the Turkish Consulate General of Komotini.
As it will be recalled, İlhan Ahmet talked to Radio Chronos in May 2022 and said, “I want to be a deputy of not only Muslims but also all Rhodope people. This attitude disturbs some of them. These focuses want the minority deputy to deal with certain issues only."
In a relevant news dated April 21, 2022, "Politicians and diplomats attending the iftars in Western Thrace from Turkey often use iftars as a tool to talk about the existence of the Turkish Minority and the 'so-called' oppressed minority in Thrace." İlhan Ahmet said without hesitation.
