Resolution of the Municipal Council of Xanthi on the abolition of the Court of First Instance of Xanthi
The Municipal Council of Xanthi, in its last meeting with the outgoing composition, on 21-12-2023, dealt with the abolition of the Court of First Instance of Xanthi as an independent judicial unit.
After a dialogic discussion, the Municipal Council unanimously decided to issue the following resolution, regarding the abolition as an independent judicial unit of the Court of First Instance of Xanthi and its mission, to post the resolution to the President of the Hellenic Republic, to the Prime Minister of Greece, Ministries of Interior, Justice, of Foreign Affairs, to the MPs of Xanthi Province and to the local media.
RESOLUTION
The Bar Association of Xanthi unequivocally declares its complete opposition to the recommendation of the World Bank, which proposes the abolition as an independent judicial unit, among other Courts of First Instance and the Court of First Instance of Xanthi.
The Court of First Instance of Xanthi despite the inherent difficulties, despite the constant protests and the unfulfilled promises we receive, has managed to contribute to the quality and speedy delivery of justice, serving the fundamental right of citizens to access Justice, a constituent element of the Rule of Law.
It is not possible for an entire Regional Unit with this particular nationally critical position to be deprived of the most basic institution of Justice with incalculable consequences for its National Economic and Social development.
The history of the Court of First Instance of Xanthi dictates its upgrading and not its abolition. Any other prospect is nightmarish. This is why our reaction should be collective and dynamic.
We call on all the local bodies, the parliamentarians the prefectures of Thrace, to raise our voices against the threatened changes and the unfavorable consequences they will bring to our country.
Our collective and dynamic reaction is the only way.
