Psychologist Onur İbram publishes new book on generative AI and mental health

Onur İbram, a well-known figure within the Turkish community of Western Thrace and psychology columnist for Millet Newspaper, has published a new academic book examining the relationship between generative artificial intelligence and mental health.

Titled “Generative Artificial Intelligence and Mental Health”, the book was released by Nobel Academic Publishing and explores the psychological, ethical, and societal implications of rapidly evolving AI technologies.

According to İbram, the project is the result of nearly two years of research and intellectual work inspired by the emergence of systems such as ChatGPT and other GPT-based technologies.

The book discusses how generative AI can be integrated into mental health services, the ethical boundaries surrounding its use, and the importance of maintaining a human-centered therapeutic approach during technological transformation.

Speaking about the central theme of the work, İbram stated that the core question is not only what artificial intelligence will bring to mental health care, but also how society can preserve humanity, privacy, ethical responsibility, and the healing relationship between individuals throughout this transformation.

The forewords of the publication were written by internationally recognized scholars Emmanuel Kuntsche and Ibrahim Keklik, whom İbram thanked for their contributions.

Describing the book as “the embodiment of a curiosity that began during high school years, combined with professional responsibility and a long-term search for the future of mental health services,” İbram expressed hope that the work would make a meaningful academic contribution to ongoing debates at the intersection of artificial intelligence and psychology.

The book is currently available through Nobel Academic Publishing.
