Proposal from the KOMOTINI DINATA team to create pocket parks
The project of architect Katerina Moisidou, a candidate for councilor in the main opposition KOMOTINI DINATA team of Komotini Municipality, for the construction of pocket parks in the neighbourhoods of Komotini has been accepted by the head of the list Antonis Gravanis and his team.
One of the projects that the KOMOTINI DINATA team, headed by Gravanis, will implement if they take over the administration of the Municipality of Komotini in the local elections to be held on 8 October 2023 is the project of building 10 pocket parks in different neighbourhoods that will increase the green area of Komotini.
Antonis Gravanis and his team aim to change the neighbourhoods of Komotini with the 10 pocket parks they will create.
The project prepared by Architect Katerina Moisidu with the slogan "10 pocket parks change Komotini" was presented to the public.
KOMOTINI DINATA stated the following in the bulletin sent to the press about the project
"We are changing the appearance of the neighbourhoods of Komotini with the first 10 pocket parks we will create
The continuous deterioration of some parts of the urban and peri-urban fabric has led to the deterioration of the aesthetics and quality of life of those living in our city.
Dozens of abandoned, unsafe places have turned into garbage dumps, gathering points for stray animals and foci of pollution.
In the context of the interventions of the "KOMOTINI DINATA" group within the framework of our programmes, our environmental priority is the sensitive transformation projects of the densely built-up areas of our city, designated areas of urban green spaces.
As a result of our studies and research, we have paid particular attention to the transformation of dysfunctional and problematic parts of the land into living spaces (pocket parks), prioritising the bioclimatic design of outdoor spaces.
These parks are small spots of "forgotten" urban land that will be appropriately shaped to contribute to the improvement of the environment and play a catalytic role as a mechanism to improve the microclimate of the neighbourhood and in particular to mitigate the heat island.
The green spaces to be created will reduce urban noise, purify the air from dust and pollutants, provide shelter for birds and small animals that tend to disappear from the urban environment.
At the same time, they will give life to the neighbourhoods of the city as places for recreation, sports, sportive and cultural activities.
The selection of 10 parks was made in accordance with the approved spatial and urban planning. The selected locations will form a single network with the aim to expand and include other locations in the future.
The final version will be in complete harmony with both the public transport infrastructure and the continuous building system of our city, so that they do not constitute a foreign body.
Their access will be clearly visible, with adequate lighting and good visibility. This will help to maintain security in the city and prevent the creation of urban ghettos.
As common goods of our city, pocket parks will signal the creation of social nuclei that reflect the characteristics and needs of our citizens.
They will help build social capital through the friendship, familiarity and security they can provide."
