Prime Minister Mitsotakis pays visit to Alexandroupoli region
Greek Prime Minister Kiryakos Mitsotakis was in the Evros region on Friday, 13 October.
Within the scope of his visit programme, Prime Minister Mitsotakis first visited the forested area close to the city, which was damaged by the large fires that occurred in the last months, with the President of the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Province Christos Metios, the authorities of the Alexandroupolis Dedeğaç Forestry Directorate and local political representatives of the region.
Prime Minister Mitsotakis met with the members of Çilingir Neighbourhood Woodcutters Cooperative and Taşağıl Neighbourhood Woodcutters Cooperative, who were cleaning the forest area, and received information from the forestry directorate officials and the forestry workers about the cleaning works.
After listening to the officials, Mitsotakis informed them about the budget and the plan prepared for the damages caused by the major disasters in both Evros (Evros) and Rhodope provinces.
In his speech, Prime Minister Mitsotakis emphasised that the struggle of the forest workers was very important, especially in the difficult days of the fire disaster, and thanked them specially.
The Prime Minister stated that a budget of 80 million euros has been prepared to cover the wounds caused by the disaster, and with this budget, restoration works will be carried out in forest areas, measures will be taken to prevent flooding during rainfall, and reforestation of burnt areas will be carried out.
After thanking the forest workers, Prime Minister Mitsotakis left the area and visited Alexandroupoli city centre and greeted the citizens.
The first speaker in the city centre was Christos Metios, President of the Province of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. Metios expressed his satisfaction for the presence of the Prime Minister in Alexandroupoli and explained the activities carried out in different fields in the region so far as the State Presidency. He talked about what will be done from now on.
After Metios, Prime Minister Mitsotakis addressed the citizens of Alexandroupoli.
Greeting the gathered crowd, Prime Minister Mitsotakis, while mentioning the elected officials present there, did not escape attention when he mentioned the name of the current President of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Christos Metios, and addressed him as the current and future President of the State.
In his speech, the Prime Minister said that the Evros (Evros) region has been the first in terms of the visits he has made in the last years and that he is currently visiting the region to support the President of the province, Christos Metios.
Stating that the success achieved in the elections held last week should be completed this Sunday, Mr Mitsotakis talked about the work carried out for the development of the region and the projects they will carry out with the provincial president Hristos Metios.
Prime Minister Mitsotakis said that there may be different political views, opinions, criticisms and problems on a regional basis, and that the work started on Sunday last week should be successfully completed on Sunday evening, 15 October, and Hristo Metios should be re-elected as President of the province.
