"Pool" response from Mayor Garanis to the main opposition
The Mayor of Komotini, Yannis Garanis, responded to the main opposition, which criticized the administration over the municipality's indoor swimming pool.
Common Vision, the main opposition group of the Municipality of Komotini, announced to the public that it demanded an urgent solution from the mayor for the operation of the indoor swimming pool with its press release.
Antonis Gravanis the main opposition leader stated in its statement that the reason why the swimming pool was not put into operation was due to the inefficiency and carelessness of Garanis management.
Thereupon, the Mayor of Komotini, Yannis Garanis, responded to the main opposition leader Antonis Gravanis on the pool issue with a press release.
Mayor Garanis’s written reply is as follows:
"The Joint Vision group and its leader Antonis Gravanis insist on making dissenting criticism that is completely devoid of content, memory and perspective! We, as the management, were once again spectators in the same project.
They criticize us for not operating the city's swimming pool, even though they knew very well what the previous administrations and ours were doing.
So let's remind them again! When the management of Giorgos Petridis took over the management of the Municipality of Komotini, it decided to stop the operation of the swimming pool due to the exorbitant debts and economically unprofitable cost.
However, in order not to deprive our citizens of the swimming pool, cooperation was made with Thrace Democritos University.
Since then, we have signed a contract with the university every year and provided financial support for our citizens to benefit from the university swimming pool.
As the Municipality, the University will not "host" us under any circumstances without paying the financial share allocated to us. Moreover, how could the university manage to bear the additional financial costs amid the cutbacks and difficult financial conditions?
As a municipality, we are not so incompetent and insensitive as to be a burden to our university. Simultaneously, however, during our 2-year tenure, we took care to prepare the energy improvement study of our municipal swimming pool.
Thus, on the one hand, we did not deprive our citizens of the opportunity to use the pools without charging a fee, on the other hand, we are ready to include the energy upgrade in the program when the pool is opened.
This is how the serious administrations of the municipalities act. They do not impose millions of debts on their citizens, do not deprive them of their sports rights and reliably lay the foundations for the future.
But Mr. Gravanis feeds on other policies! In terms of development and perspective debt policies left our municipality behind for decades!"
