Fener Greek Patriarchate in Turkey appoints metropolitans to regions where no Orthodox community exists, while persecution continues in Western Thrace.
The Fener Greek Patriarchate continues to appoint metropolitans to regions that are not Greek communities. While this situation continues even though it is against Lausanne Treaty, the Turkish Minority in Western Thrace is deprived of the right to have a say in their religious institutions.
The Saint Synod Council, the decision-making body of the Fener Greek Patriarchate, convened under the Presidency of the Patriarch. In the elections held at the meeting on March 17th, two of the Greek Community and the new Metropolitan was elected.
At the end of the elections, Andreas was elected as Metropolitan in Kırkkilise (Kırklareli), and Synod Chief Secretary Joachim was elected in Bursa.
The Patriarchate persistently continues to use the title Ecumenical in languages other than Turkish, which the Turkish state does not recognize.
In addition, a metropolitan assigned in Turkish city Kırklareli under the name Kırk Kilise, where no single Greek Orthodox citizen lives.
In Western Thrace, however, the Greek state does not recognize the Muftis chosen by the Turkish Minority and continues to oppress them uninterruptedly.
Mufti Offices in Western Thrace have been under occupation for years with the confiscation of the state. The state is trying to intimidate the Muftis chosen and known by the minority by declaring them illegal and putting them under pressure with the courts. It ignores the religion of Islam and the will of the Muslims by placing puppet religious officials in the State Mufti's offices who are the triggers of its assimilationist minority policy. The state's disrespect for Muslims and Islam is not limited to this, and the conscience of the Turkish Minority continues to bleed by appointing Christian officers to the Mufti offices, which are Islamic institutions.
