Özgür Ferhat: "The government should be on the side of our fellow countrymen, not against them"
Rodopi Independent MP Özgür Ferhat brought to the parliamentary agenda the fact that thousands of cognates who heat with wood and pellets cannot benefit from fuel aid.
Criticising the New Democracy Party government on the issue and mentioning the problems of the citizens who are deprived of aid, MP Özgür Ferhat stated the following:
"Considering the recent high price increases in all products and decreasing incomes, this aid provides a little breathing space to our people in today's severe economic conditions.
However, according to the statement issued by the Mitsotakis government with a ministerial decision on 30 October 2023, the criteria stipulated for wood and pellet aid deprive thousands of our compatriots of this aid.
According to the criteria explained, the population must be equal to or below 10,000 and the heat coefficient must be equal to or above 0.80. As a result of these unfair calculations, many families cannot benefit from this aid.
Hundreds and thousands of citizens who meet their heating needs with pellets and wood, such as Şapcı, one of the largest settlements of our region, Aşağıköy, Bekirköy, Karakurcalı, Sofular, Kaybıköy, Taşkınlar, Üçgaziler and Meşe, should be helped. We request the current government authorities to review this issue and correct it as soon as possible and to extend the deadline for aid applications."
