No tolerance even to the 'Western Thrace'
Vasiliki Thanou, Honorary President of the Supreme Court of Greece, claimed that the "Western Thrace Fenerbahce Association", which was established in the past months, harmed national interests, and threatened public safety and the rights of others. In the article she wrote, Thanou demanded the cancellation of the registration decision of the Western Thrace Fenerbahce Association by the Komotini court.
Thanou requested the cancellation of the registration decision of the "Macedonian Language Center" established in the city of Florina, where Macedonians live, in December, and a short time later, the Florina Prosecutor filed a lawsuit for the annulment of the recognition decision of the "Macedonian Language Center".
Vasiliki Thanou, Honorary President of the Supreme Court of Appeals and one of the former prime ministers, wrote an article about the Western Thrace Fenerbahce Association, which was established in Komotini and started its activities a short time ago. In her article published on the website "dikastiko.gr", which covers legal issues, Thanou stated that the aims of the Western Thrace Fenerbahce Association are "contrary to national interests, have propaganda purposes, are misleading, and that the social relations between the two Greek communities (Christians and Muslims) living in a sensitive region like Thrace are claimed that it harmed the peace”.
“REGISTRATION DECISION OF THE KOMOTINI COURT IS WRONG”
Thanou, Honorary President of the Supreme Court of Appeals, stated in his article that the region was not referred to as "Western Thrace" in any international agreement, and that the Treaty of Lausanne referred to the "contract on the border of Thrace" and stated that there was only one Thrace in Greece. She stated that only Türkiye insistently mentions the "Western Thrace" region, contrary to the national interests of Greece. Thanou cited the statement about the Turks of Western Thrace made by the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 29 January as a final example.
Thanu claimed that the Civil Court of First Instance of Komotini, which registered the founding petition of the Western Thrace Fenerbahce Association, made a mistake and that it was wrong to accept the aims of the association as legal. Thanu defended the view that the Komotini court, which registered the foundation of the association, did not take into account the similar decisions of the Supreme Court on the subject. It is noteworthy that Thanu cited the decisions of the Supreme Court of the Xanthi Turkish Union, the Rhodope Province Turkish Women's Cultural Association, and the Xanthi Province Turkish Women's Cultural Association, which won a lawsuit at the European Court of Human Rights.
“THIS IS A NATIONAL ISSUE”
In her letter, Thanou demanded that the Greek judicial and administrative authorities and especially the Komotini prosecutor take immediate action to annul the registration decision of the Western Thrace Fenerbahce Association. She noted that ordinary citizens or members of associations also have the right to apply for the annulment of the said registration decision. In his article, Thanou claimed that this is a national issue, not a party issue.
SHE GUIDED THE COURT
In her article, Thanou, Honorary President of the Supreme Court of Appeals, wrote, “In such cases, the official organs of the Greek state and judicial authorities, the judicial authorities should carefully check whether the legal requirements are met in order to ensure public order and safety and to prevent disruption of public order”. Using her statements, she almost guided the court.
Thanou noted that the duty and authority of the judge is not to damage the social peace between citizens by violating the laws with his decisions, but to ensure peace and harmony among citizens by preserving legality.
