Nationwide education boycotts: Students of İskeçe Minority High School join the protests

Across the country today, students, teachers, and parents are taking to the streets to protest the government’s education policies. As rallies are held simultaneously in more than 40 cities, students of the İskeçe Minority Middle and High School also launched a class boycott early this morning.

Thousands are expected to join demonstrations in Athens (Propylea), Selanik (Venizelos Statue), and other cities, with protesters calling for new teacher appointments, salary increases, renovation of school buildings, and greater funding for education.

In this context, around 35 to 40 students from the İskeçe Minority Middle and High School gathered in front of their school, announcing their participation in the nationwide boycott.

The students issued a statement beginning with the words: “We want a strong and modern school.” Their declaration also listed several demands, including improvements to school infrastructure, completion of missing restroom facilities, and implementation of safety measures against potential disasters such as earthquakes and fires.
