Mufti Ibrahim Serif of Komotini issues message for Berat Night

Highlighting the spiritual significance of Berat Night as a herald of the holy month of Ramadan, Mufti Serif emphasized that this blessed night is filled with divine mercy, forgiveness, and grace. He stated that the muftiate has organized special programs at several mosques, including Yeni Mahalle, Çepelli, Basırlıköy, Dolapçılar, Kargılı Sarıca, Bıyıklıköy, and Dikilitaş, to ensure the community can celebrate this sacred night with fervor.
In his message, Mufti Serif described the profound meaning of Berat Night, stressing that it is a time for spiritual purification and seeking divine forgiveness. He explained that the word “Berat” means to be freed from debt, illness, sin, or punishment, while in religious terms, it signifies cleansing from sins and attaining divine mercy. He also noted that this night holds great significance for Muslims, who traditionally observe it with increased worship and prayers.
Citing the sayings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) regarding Berat Night, Mufti Serif reaffirmed that divine mercy encompasses all believers on this night and that supplications for forgiveness are accepted. He also referenced Islamic scholars who encourage spending the night in prayer, reciting the Quran, and engaging in repentance and seeking forgiveness.
Mufti Serif urged believers not to fall into despair over their sins but instead to turn to Allah with sincere repentance. He reminded the community that Allah accepts the repentance of those who seek forgiveness and pardons their sins.
He further encouraged individuals to reflect on their spiritual responsibilities, assess their relationship with Allah, and strive to become better servants of God. Stressing the importance of social unity, Mufti Serif called on the community to refrain from discord and strife, to mend broken relationships, and to uphold a spirit of brotherhood and solidarity.
Concluding his message, Mufti Ibrahim Serif expressed his hope that Berat Night brings blessings to the entire Islamic world. He invited all Muslims to embrace the spiritual essence of this sacred night and draw closer to Allah through prayer and devotion.
